Nikon has made it official today of the D3s. Based on the same D3 camera with some minor upgrades and enhancements, the D3s is essentially Nikon’s first full frame (FX) DSLR to feature video support (720p/24 frames per second), in addition to the a new ISO range of up to an amazingly high 102,400! Likewise, the 102,400 is locked an Hi3 model, which it is reserved for emergency, as I would like to call it, however the new D3s gains an extra stop of at ISO 12,800 which so far some samples proving it can be quite usable.
For the press release, head over to the Official Nikon D3s Press Release, or check out the D3s/D3x Microsite.

Recently, I was lucky enough to be one of 50 entrants to be selected for Panasonic’s Lumix Life Gallery, an exhibition showing off images captured using any one of Panasonic’s range of Lumix digital cameras. I had entered several collections with each consisting of 10 of my best images. The collection included Vivid Sydney - images of Opera House lighting in wonderful colours, Pure NZ - images captured during my short visit around New Zealand’s South Island, but it was the Made In Japan, that won me the opportunity to show the world my photography. The Made In Japan collection consists of some of my most memorable time during my travel around Japan’s amazing cities, in late 2008. All the pictures in the Made In Japan collection was captured with the excellent Lumix DMC-LX3, which in my opinion is a great landscape and street photography camera. Since having owing one, the LX3 has been one of my traveling companion on all my trips.
If you have the time, and living or just visiting Sydney during the 10th of October 2009, feel free to visit the gallery (entry is free) and see my exhitibition on display with Panasonic’s latest plasma screens. However, for those that is outside Sydney, you can also visit the gallery virtually via the live webcast.
Address:
Global Gallery
5 Comber Street, Paddington NSW
My exhibition starts at 11.00am and ends at 1.00pm
For those that can not make to my exhibition, you can see the live webcast here:
Lumix Life Gallery Live Webcast

I would also like to take this chance to thank Panasonic Australia to hold such a wonderful competition and allow me the opportunity to have my works shown. Not only I feel proud to be a Lumix owner, but also appreciate the support Panasonic has given to it’s users.

As I slowly change my blog format, and reduce in reporting rumors, I simply couldn’t resist on reporting this rumor.
Via CNET Asia Crave blog, its is reported that a Lecia’s Asia Pacific Director Sunil Kaul, has quoted that Lecia’s newly announced X1 uses an APS-C-sized imaging sensor, which the sensor is manufactured by Sony and is apparently going to be used in one of Nikon’s upcoming cameras which he cannot disclose.
I hope this rumor is true, as this will be a good news as the trend is for camera manufacturers to open a new niche and the range-finder type cameras is an excellent format, Olympus has done it with the PEN E-P1, Panasonic has just announced the GF1 and now we have the ultra expensive Lecia X1, so I can’t see any reason why Nikon (and possibly Canon) not doing it!

It’s has been a long week, well for me anyway. I been busy working on some photos and haven’t done much updating, not it really matters as there hasn’t been any news to come lately, considering most of the announcements has already been covered elsewhere around web. As my schedule gets tighter, and my load gets heavier, I am looking to change my blog format a little, and will start updating with news that is more related to photography and my business. I am still oging to cover some rumors and announcements, but think there are other sites on the web that does a far better job at reporting that. I have listed several sites below and will include them in my links for future references.

On September the 1st, Canon announces the EOS 7D. The long rumored DSLR that is described to be the mini 5D Full Frame camera, is actually a new APS-C cropped sensor based camera with plenty of features to attack Nikon’s D300/D300s.
The EOS 7D features include;
- 18 MP APS–C CMOS Sensor
Designed and manufactured by Canon, the sensor produces an outstanding image and offers fantastic performance at high and low conditions, thanks to a new photodiode and microlens construction.
- 8 fps image capture
Enabled by the Dual “DIGIC 4” processors and improved electrical system, photographers can capture images at 8fps, without the need for additional accessories and in all file types.
- ISO Range
The EOS 7D enables photographers to capture subjects in their natural light. The ISO range (100 – 6,400) is expandable to 12,800.
- EOS Movie
With improved operation, making it easy to switch directly to movie mode, it is now even simpler to shoot Full HD video. Users can set exposure and frame rate – with options for 24 fps to create that cinematic feel.
- Dual “DIGIC 4” processors
By utilising Dual “DIGIC 4” processors, users of the EOS 7D never have to compromise between shooting speed, image quality and ISO performance.
- Impressive Design
Canon has listened to photographer feedback when designing the body, as well as the internal technologies. A magnesium alloy body offers environmental protection – the tough, lightweight construction is designed to defend against moisture, and dust – equivalent to the legendary EOS–1N.

While we wait for the official word from Sony Australia, I’m going to jumpthe gun and make the announcement (along with the rest of the world). Sony (in the US, Japan and Europe) has made the official annoucment of the A500 and A550. Both models are very similar in shape and size, features a new low-light Exmor CMOS Sensor but differ on the pixel count and other slight improvements. The A500 will be availabe with the 12MP Exmor CMOS sensor, and 230K LCD display whereas and the A550 with feature a 14MP sensor and 920K display.
Besides the two consumer models, Sony also announced an exciting new pro-specification A850 model. The A850, looks and feels similar to the A900 model, and with some very minor difference to the A900 which was luanched sometime ago. In fact, some early reviews are basically saying the camera is also idenitical to the A900. What’s amazing wth the A850, is not just the Full Frame 24MP sensor is the price, currently I dont have any Australian pricing, but in the US it will be retailing about $2,000 - which is highly competative with Canon’s 5DMarkII, and somewhat makes the AUD$12,000 Nikon D3X, looks overpriced… way overprice, but mind you they are completely different cameras for different markets.

If the rumors are correct, in the coming weeks we will be see a host of new digital cameras from Canon, Sony and Panasonic. Not including the models already announced by Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and a few revised models from Sony. With a wide range of new models to choose from, this time the professional and semi-pro will be pleased that a number of new models are aimed for directly for them. Take Nikon’s D300s, the overdue replacement for the award wining D300, then I am expecting a serious competitor to the new Nikon model, in the form of a Canon EOS which is expected to be detailed sometime early September, as I may have mentioned in past posts, I already know some of the details and know it is going to be a real stunner (but wouldn’t be commenting more than what is rumored publicly) but we will have wait to see if the image quality lives up to its standards. Sony, is not alone, rumors mentioning three newer models will be announced, two of them I suspect will be middle-range consumer models while the pro/semi-pro will get a real treat. If Sony plays there cards right, the treat will make Sony one very good value for money DSLR, and in respect to image quality it should be closer to its larger brother model. I have know the details for some these models for sometime, but out of all respects to my sources, I will still keep it tight but I can really say that some of the rumors are ‘almost’ on the ball, while some are just a wishlist. So, if your a pro or becoming a pro here is a good time to upgrade. I’m seriousl

Rumors are now spreading with two piece of images of the next Canon DSLR, one image depicting the EOS 7D logo on the camera, and the second image consist of the top part of the camera (a part from a possible assembly like). No clear and confirmed specifications. But I don’t want to start any new rumors, but I am rather certain that camera is not what some people are expecting … some will be disappointed, while other will be rejoiced for the offering. I for one, is considering this as my first Canon DSLR I would like to use for some of my future projects. I guess, we will have to wait and see… it is expected to be announced very soon.

Canon, in the past couple of days made an annoucement of the release of the sucessor to the PowerShot G10. Surprisingly, the replacement for the G10 came early and with noticeable downgrade in megapixels. The G11, is similar to the design and size of the G10 (if not the same), but now has a 10MP CCD instead of the 15MP. Canon, has states that drop in pixels are designed to improve in low-light image quality. Also, absent in the G11 model is HD video.
Whats more interesting , Canon has also announced a new model, the S90, which from specifications it seem like a micro version of the G11, with a cool focusing ring. Again, 10MP and no HD video features.
