Nikon Announces The D3s - The Successors To The D3

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Nikon has made it official today of the D3s. Based on the same D3 camera with some minor upgrades and enhancements, the D3s is essentially Nikon’s first full frame (FX) DSLR to feature video support (720p/24 frames per second), in addition to the a new ISO range of up to an amazingly high 102,400! Likewise, the 102,400 is locked an Hi3 model, which it is reserved for emergency, as I would like to call it, however the new D3s gains an extra stop of at ISO 12,800 which so far some samples proving it can be quite usable.

For the press release, head over to the Official Nikon D3s Press Release, or check out the D3s/D3x Microsite.

Lecia Spoiling The Fun For Nikon

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

As I slowly change my blog format, and reduce in reporting rumors, I simply couldn’t resist on reporting this rumor.
Via CNET Asia Crave blog, its is reported that a Lecia’s Asia Pacific Director Sunil Kaul, has quoted that Lecia’s newly announced X1 uses an APS-C-sized imaging sensor, which the sensor is manufactured by Sony and is apparently going to be used in one of Nikon’s upcoming cameras which he cannot disclose.

I hope this rumor is true, as this will be a good news as the trend is for camera manufacturers to open a new niche and the range-finder type cameras is an excellent format, Olympus has done it with the PEN E-P1, Panasonic has just announced the GF1 and now we have the ultra expensive Lecia X1, so I can’t see any reason why Nikon (and possibly Canon) not doing it!

Canon’s Introduces The All New EOS 7D

Friday, September 4th, 2009

On September the 1st, Canon announces the EOS 7D. The long rumored DSLR that is described to be the mini 5D Full Frame camera, is actually a new APS-C cropped sensor based camera with plenty of features to attack Nikon’s D300/D300s.

The EOS 7D features include;

  • 18 MP APS–C CMOS Sensor
Designed and manufactured by Canon, the sensor produces an outstanding image and offers fantastic performance at high and low conditions, thanks to a new photodiode and microlens construction.
  • 8 fps image capture
Enabled by the Dual “DIGIC 4” processors and improved electrical system, photographers can capture images at 8fps, without the need for additional accessories and in all file types.
  • ISO Range
The EOS 7D enables photographers to capture subjects in their natural light.  The ISO range (100 – 6,400) is expandable to 12,800.
  • EOS Movie
With improved operation, making it easy to switch directly to movie mode, it is now even simpler to shoot Full HD video.  Users can set exposure and frame rate – with options for 24 fps to create that cinematic feel.
  • Dual “DIGIC 4” processors
By utilising Dual “DIGIC 4” processors, users of the EOS 7D never have to compromise between shooting speed, image quality and ISO performance.
  • Impressive Design
Canon has listened to photographer feedback when designing the body, as well as the internal technologies.  A magnesium alloy body offers environmental protection – the tough, lightweight construction is designed to defend against moisture, and dust – equivalent to the legendary EOS–1N.

Rumors: Canon’s Next DSLR, Could Be Just Around The Corner

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Rumors are now spreading with two piece of images of the next Canon DSLR, one image depicting the EOS 7D logo on the camera, and the second  image consist of the top part of the camera (a part  from a possible assembly like). No clear and confirmed specifications. But I don’t want to start any new rumors, but I  am rather certain that camera is not what some people are expecting … some will be disappointed, while other will be rejoiced for the offering. I for one, is considering this as my first Canon DSLR I would like to use for some of my future projects. I guess, we will have to wait and see… it is expected to be announced very soon.

Annoucements: Canon Releases PowerShot G11 And S90 Models

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Canon, in the past couple of days made an annoucement of the release of the sucessor to the PowerShot G10. Surprisingly, the replacement for the G10 came early and with noticeable downgrade in megapixels. The G11, is similar to the design and size of the G10 (if not the same), but now has a 10MP CCD instead of the 15MP. Canon, has states that drop in pixels are designed to improve in low-light image quality. Also, absent in the G11 model is HD video.

Whats more interesting , Canon has also announced a new model, the S90, which from specifications it seem like a micro version of the G11, with a cool focusing ring. Again, 10MP and no HD video features.
